Updating Lawson Payroll files

We are receiving a file directly from the bank in regards to 401K percentages and 401K loan amounts. What we need to do is update a couple of Lawson files. Can we update both the DNBNBEN and DBPREDM files directly without messing anything up. I know we should use the lawson update routines (and will do it if we have to), but I want to see if we can do this "outside" of Lawson. It will be much faster and easier.
