Force Blank Line in layout in Report Formatter
salbritton
I have a FACTS 7.5.4 customer with Report Formatter. I'm creating a custom report, and the layout has two sets of values, "stacked" upon each other:
CurrYr1
CurrYr2
LastYr1
LastYr2
I want to separate the 'CurrYr' and 'LastYr' values with a blank line for readability. Everything I've tried (inserting a blank variable dimensioned to the width of the line, etc.) has failed; the Report Formatter driver seems to remove any blank lines in the layout. Anyone run across this and was able to find a work around?

Brad,
Unforunately what you desire is unattainable in the package. The report formatter is designed to remove all blank lines in the detail window. To accomplish what you want the line cannot be blank.
Might I suggest a new field that is the report width wide and has an asterisk as the first and last character of field, with the rest blank; so that the field is NOT blank, but is limited in what prints to the two lone characters at the start and end. It's not pretty, but it should work for the separation.

Thanks, Bob! Hadn't thought of that - good idea.

Brad,
No problem, I had a similar issue with one of my customers and had to find a work around myself.
Obviously any character will work, the asterisk just popped into my head first, but the period might be the least obtrusive of all the characters you could chose from...
