Using MKS Toolkit to Migrate Scripts to Windows
sean-howlin
We are working on our 10x upgrade, and we are migrating from Unix to Windows. We have several shell scripts created to automate business processing, so we are taking a look at using IPA to replace these scripts.
We are also considering purchasing MKS Toolkit as an option. Has anyone used MKS toolkit to migrate Unix .sh script "as-is" to a Windows environment and getting them to run with limited scripting using the MKS Toolkit application?
Thank to all in advance,
Marilyn Sizemore

We did this when we migrated from UNIX to Windows. We have a number of ksh utility scripts for moving and converting files, etc.

Thanks, Dan.

Here's another thought.
When we migrated from Unix to Windows I rewrote our shell scripts in PERL to make them more portable and the fact that others I work with knew PERL. I realized in looking at our shell scripts that I had 3 different types of scripts, so that once I created the template for each type, it didn't take me too long to convert the others within that type.

Oh, I'm jealous, Dennis. We have about 300 undocumented scripts to convert, many of which were created by Unix admins long since gone. We have found that there are several that are similar in nature - ACH processing- but there are a few mystery scripts yet to be reviewed!

When we moved from Unix to Windows, not everything was recognized by MKS (used for the conversion and upgrades) or LUU (used afterwards). We also found that MKS and LUU did not recognize the same commands. We ended up using Process Flow, Perl, VBScript, and bat files. Our Unix scripts were per feed. Typically, someone would clone an existing script and fit it to what was needed. We ended up consolidating our scripts and added parameters so that they could be reused. The end result was that we had a smaller number of scripts.

I can relate to the mystery scripts!
I converted 100 down to about 50 as I too was able to consolidate a bunch.
I'd be happy to send you some examples if you'd like. Ping me at dbowen@mtholyoke.edu if you're interested.
