VAT for Canadian GST

Anyone out there ever try to use VAT to calculate Canadian GST. Is this possible? if not, why? any feedback would be great.

    Considering how complex our neighbors to the north are making their sales taxes (yes I know USA - much more complex) anyway we used the sales tax goups for GST, HST, GSTHST, GSTPST, HST, HST-BC, HST-NS, HST-PEI, EXEMPT ONTARIO, ECT....... Seemed to be the easist method and works well for us.
