Validating Bank Numbers for Employee Self Service Direct Deposit

We are in V10 and have allowed our employees to update the bank numbers for years. This causes us issues when mistakes are made and has caused out tables to grow. I'd be interested in hearing how other companies are dealing with Employee Self Service for Direct Deposit. If you do not allow the employees to update the bank routing numbers, how do you maintain the bank table?

Errors in the account/routing numbers provided by the employees and the time & effort involved in validating & correcting them is exactly why our payroll department did not want us to allow this.

All we did is create a custom HTML page (in Design Studio) to display for that bookmark, which advised the employees that they must contact payroll for all direct deposit account setups and/or modifications.

If our employees attempt to add a new bank routing number that is not currently in our bank table, they get a message that they must contact the payroll department. Otherwise, if it is there, they are free to add their account numbers. We also get notification of all direct deposit changes to payroll.

We use SilkRoad RedCarpet for onboarding and allow our employees to enter their own bank routing and account numbers. But we also require them to bring a cancelled check or letter from their bank that we scan. I have automated routines that match the direct deposit information downloaded from RedCarpet with the scanned document and email them both to our Payroll Department. They verify that the information transferred to PR13 is correct before the employee receives their first paycheck.

I also do a periodic update pass on bank routing data that I download from the ABA to remove incorrect routing numbers/bank names and update bank names for routing numbers of banks that have been sold/acquired.
