if you received the byte size error, (1) ftp the file from the server using binary mode and the byte size in the manifest should match the byte size of the file. (2) once you've submitted to the IRS, in order to submit another file you need to re-run the BN299 to obtain a new UUID for the file.

Question #12: What should the AttachmentByteSizeNum be? I submitted a character count of the 1094-C/1095-C file and it was rejected IRS Response #12: AttachmentByteSizeNum in Manifest should be same as size of the file.
•Right click on Form data file
•Click on “Properties”
•Copy the size in bytes (not “Size of disk”)

I reran my bn299 Change to R for replacement and inserted my original receipt and resubmitted to the IRS. This time I used binary instead of ASCII so the bytes were correct on the manifest. Do I have to make a change to the BN27 so the CheckSumAugmentation # is different?

Question #3: When doing a replacement transmission, we are receiving duplicate file errors. Our vendor is saying it is due to the check sum augmentation #. How do we rectify this? Is there a way to determine what receipt Ids have already been received?’

IRS Response #3: Transmissions for the same TCC with an identical Checksum Augmentation Number (which were Accepted, Accepted with Errors, or Rejected with an AIR error code) will be rejected as duplicates. Therefore, you must alter your submission. For example you could add a hyphen to the contact person suffix name or add a trailing space to an address field. The AIR Help Desk can look up your UTIDs and tell you which ones have a Receipt ID.

I have added a hyphen before the suffix on the BN27 -MR but the check sum number did not change. Is there something else I should be doing.

I review the file and it says "the addition of the hyphen should result in a different ChecksumAugmentationNum. But then it goes on to say at the very bottom about using a MD5 check sum utility.

Here are the utilities you can use in Windows or Unix to get a new checksum value:

openssl md5 filename > output_name ...for unix

CertUtil -hashfile <filename> MD5 ...for Windows (from command line)
