Change Company/Set Date Question

Hi folks,

Do customers limit access to the Change Company (SMU120) and Set Date/Time (SMU110) programs? If so, why?

In 9.1, these programs will be accessed differently, and I need to understand if/why some users would be prevented from accessing them.

I know that some of our customers' executives/managers do not want to give the employees an opportunity to play in something and then forget they are in the demo or another company and process transactions in the wrong company. Others do not want employees to see what is going on in a different company or have any knowledge that another company exists.

Hi Paul - if the search only displays the companies that the user is authorized to get to, would that be sufficient to address this? btw, we already have in 9.1 a clear way to differentiate one company from the next - each company can have a different color scheme.

Yes, that would help for some of the execs and managers. With the others, I think is it more of a secrecy and/or control issue. So for the customers that just want to make sure no accidents happen, the search based on companies the user is allowed to see, should be fine. We would just add that to a menu the users have available thus keeping the rest of SM hidden.

Hi Tim,

After taking an informal poll w/ our customers, most felt strongly about having security around date/time change. This was mainly for data integrity and auditing, so that current date couldn't be manipulated by users wanting to mislead about when things were done.
