Citrix and Infor Applications

We are looking into using Citrix for employees to access EMSS,Smart Office, Mobile Supply Chain, etc. Mostly to resolve issues with browser compatibility. Are there any gotchas that we should be aware of? One of the questions that came up was how is printing handled. Does the employee have the ability to print reports or check stubs to a printer that is defined on their PC? If the Citrix session times out, but the employee is still logged into Infor how is that handled? Any information that you can provide would be helpful. Thank you.

Citrix automatically "carries along" local PC printer definitions to the Citrix Server when a user logs on. But if the employee has admin right (or even power user -- If I remember right) they will have access to all the printers available on the Citrix server at that time.

Citrix sessions don't time out themselves -- they are active until the server reboots or the user logs off. Even disconnecting (Red X in the upper right hand corner) retains the session. We still send regular reminders to people to log off rather than disconnect.

As far a the Lawson sessions: Same rules apply as if they were logged onto a local PC. Think of a Citrix user having a view on a remote PC. As long as they are logged in, they are a "local user" to that remote PC. It's just that the "remote PC" can handle hundreds may be even thousands of users.

We have our Citrix sessions timeout. I believe the current timeout is set for 4 hours. (Because of other apps that Citrix hosts). We do absolutely everything through Citrix. Even working from the office.... Sometimes a pain, but I understand why we do it that way.

One thing to look out for... compatibility settings. You MUST not have Infor running in compatibility mode. Things won't work if you do.

We have Citrix Servers for Web Applet access to LTM - Job Search for internal Candidates, Employee Space, Manager Space. We have several Citrix servers and employees are leveled between the servers. Each Employee will have a profile saved on the Citrix server. An employee can have a profile on each server - depending on which server they get sent to. We have way too many employees to store everyone's profile on every server, so we delete profiles that are 2 weeks old.

I implemented Infor Smart Office for LSF S3 apps within a Citrix environment for thousands of business users. As an administrator, I preferred the virtual desktop .msi installation option over the click once option as it made patching and applying hotfix updates less intrusive for the business users. It also made SSL cert management easier. At the end of the ISO implementation project, we had 9 load balanced Citrix servers hosting the Smart Office client, and it worked beautifully. We did not have issues with printers as users were printing from their Lawson forms, jobs, or reports to network printers defined using native LSF printer definitions and printer groups configurations. Like CGaware mentioned, Citrix did carry over the PC local print defs, and that can be a + or -, depending on your users.

The installation of the ISO client is trickier than using the click-once installation URL, but once you've done it a few times it's fast and easy. If this is the route you decide to take, let me know and I'll be happy to send you my tips and tricks I compiled to make the virtual desktop .msi installation of the Smart Office Client easier for you. The ISO admin guide covers the basics, so you can use that as well.

The only other downside I can think of is that most Citrix servers do not support robust graphics hardware, so the users might not have access to the 3D visual effects. IMO, that aspect does not limit business transaction processing and I consider that a minor cosmetic issue with no real negative impact to the business. The same graphics limitation prevented viewing the video tutorials within Smart Office, but you can easily copy the media files to a hosted solution of your choice, like SharePoint or an internal intranet site.

I know this thread is a year old. We are moving from version 10.0.3 to 10.0.9. With our current version, we are using IE 8. I know we need IE 11. We were discussing with our Citrix person about setting this up. He asked for requirements. He mentioned we had to have specific versions of .Net. Are there any software requirements for the Citrix servers?

We looked at going the Citrix route when we upgraded to 10.0.9 because our IE version was still IE8 due to clinical applications. We determined it was best to move Infor/Lawson off the IE Standard and over to Chrome so we didn't have to worry about IE versioning. We have not regretted that decision and Chrome has been very stable.

We found that Requisition Center needed access to a folder on the C: drive. The work around was making sure the users were a member of the LawsonUser group in our AD domain and that the online user was setup correctly. This gave them access to write files to a work directory on the server instead of on their C drive.

However, in the last 30 days we just updated our Citrix server and that appears to have resolved the requirement, but we decided not to remove anyone from the LawsonUser group just in case.

Here's what I have for IE settings:

1. Add your Lawson site to the Trusted Sites list in IE.

2. Security settings under Trusted sites changed

a. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting - Enabled

b. Display mixed content - Enabled

c. Allow status bar updates via script - Enabled

d. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting * - Enabled

e. Web sites in less privileged web content zone can navigate into this zone - Enabled

4. Add your Lawson Website to popup-blocker exception list

5. Status bar on Internet Explorer - Enabled

6. Navigate windows and frames across different domains. – enable. - Enabled

Specifically For IE 11:

7. Security settings for Trusted sites click on Custom Level and change settings :

a. Allow Scriptlets = Enabled - enabled

b. Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls = Enable - Enabled

c. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting= Enable – Enabled

d. Only allow approved domains to use ActiveX without prompt=Disable

I would like to know if anyone else has anything different.
