Benefit Vendor Interface Files - File Creation Process Questions

We are looking at possible options for creating and transmitting our Benefit Vendor Enrollment files. Currently we have a custom job in S3 Lawson that creates that file that is then imported to an access database combined with other data, passed through a 834 translator then manually uploaded to the vendors sites. We send full files weekly to the vendors.

I am curious how other organizations create and transmit their files. Do you run full files or changes only? Do you use delivered jobs in S3 (i.e. BN106)? Do you use IPA to create the file and/or transmit the file to the vendor automatically without manipulation?

I would love to hear feedback how other organizations are doing this work in S3 or with IPA.

We create all our benefit files using IPA. Most of the files are transmitted bi-weekly but others like Life Insurance and LTD are passed monthly. Files are in csv format and are transmitted out through our FTP server, rather than using the FTP node on IPA. Processes were built in v9 and converted over to v10.

Did you create them internally or did you use a consultant for the file creation? Do you transmit full files or do you only pass changes only? Have you given consideration to using the FTE node in IPA?

They were all built internally. We transmit full files which is what our vendors required.

By chance would you be willing to share your .lpd file one of your interfaces like Health or Dental? We are new to IPA and we are wanting to launch into more functionality and possibly eliminate the need for custom jobs. My email is deday@fcps.edu.

We attempted to use BN106 to pull data for an 834 file but could never get the desired results. One of our programmers got involved and was able to build a custom data extract and created an 834 full file for our health & dental vendors. These files are created and transmitted automatically on a daily basis using FTP server. Our health vendor wants a change only file but we are holding our ground on a Full file at this point due to the complexities and resources needed to rewrite the data pull to be change only.

I create all our interface files using C#, pulling the data directly from Lawson's Oracle tables, formatting the output files exactly the way each vendor wants them, PGP encrypting and transmitting them directly to their FTP servers, all run from Windows Scheduler hands-free.

I would also be interested in your IPA generated interface. We too process full files every month and include dependent stops for the past 30 days. Currently using a custom 4GL to format for IBX requirements as BN106 (4010 or 5010) does not prepare the output file in their desired format. Management wants to eliminate as many customizations before going to v11 and IPA seems to be the best alternative. We have just begun looking at the benefitsHIPPAA834 flow that is in Landmark, since that is were we are looking to go, but we are not set up to use the BNTRANS table.
