Copy Table Definition To Another Dictionary On A Different Server

We are upgrading to Windows 2012 servers and we have a user defined table in our current product line that I want to copy to our new server. Do you know if this is possible and what utilities I could use? I found dmpdict, but I can't determine if I can use the output to update the dictionary on the new server. Thank you.

Use metadumptbl and metaloadtbl. You may need to use metadumpelm and metaloadelm. If you do a search there's a kb article that describes using them, I don't recall the number offhand. You can also look up the system commands in the Infor InfoCenter.

When we upgraded, I had one custom table that I needed to update. I did it the "old-fashioned" way. I documented it fully on my customization documentation. Then I hand-typed it back in to the new system using dbdef. Slow, and has to be checked for errors, but in the long run I thought it the best way. Especially as the documentation includes both the full structure, indexes, and notes, and is now available for others.

Thank you Jim. I tried metadumptbl test prhmcpcd and didn't get anything. The table is defined in the dictionary. I tried it with metadumptbl test employee and didn't get anything either. Any thoughts on why? thank you.

When you say you "didn't get anything", there is no status/display. It should have created a file prhmcpcd.tbl in the folder where you ran the command. That's the input file for the metaloadtbl command.

If it was only one server I probably would have, but I have two more servers - test and dev. Thank you for helping. It saved a lot of searching.
