Visual 7.0 Not Responding

Last week we moved on of our databases from a physical SQL 2008 R2 clustered server to a virtual server.

For the majority of the databases that moved we have seen no issues but for our largest database (67 gbs) we are now receiving Visual (Not Responding) on several windows. Accounting window which is normally slow 10-11 seconds to open now can take 25 - 40 seconds. But not all of the time. One time it opens normally and next time 40 seconds.

We don't see any blocks or locks on the database.

We've increase the instance memory to 16 gbs with no changes.

Has anyone see any issue like this after moving SQL to a VM?

We have been running Visual 7 on Hyper-v for years. Performance is all about the hardware.

For my 50gb database I use SSD server hard drives in Raid10. Some of my servers use Fusion-io card cards for SSD cache with Dell Das Cache. My load is split between servers with SQL 2012 alwaysOn so that my read only secondary server is for reports. We give each VM that runs SQL 85GB of Ram and we have or logs, databases, tempdb, and system drives all on separate VHDs.

We had moved our 6.5.2 Visual Enterprise DB from a physical server to VM, six years ago. Two years ago we upgraded Visual to 7.0.0 and since then have had multiple slowness issues; window time-outs, windows not-responding, communication link errors. We have opened two different incidents with INFOR and both have resulted in "there is something in our system" that is causing the issues!

Unlike Ed Hammond's post; We have the Logs, DB, TempDB all on one virtual hard drive the the OS system on a separate virtual hard drive. FYI database sizes; VMFG=15gb, VQ=1gb, HR/Payroll=1gb. (Although, we have been running the activity monitor showing minimal load, deadlock trace with no reported issues, monitoring event logs with no connection to the problem Visual windows.)

We are still searching for a solution!!!! (maybe Ed's database server architecture has merit!)

Before our upgrade to 7.0 we ran all applications from the server. After upgrade to 7.0, due to slowness, we installed all applications (exe's) on local computers. Afterwards, slowness was acceptable. We are currently on 8.0, all is acceptable.
