Lawson SQL Access

Does anyone use SQL with the Lawson databases as just a select tool? If so, does your organization restrict access to SQL? Does INFOR restrict access to SQL for any reason?

All the time, for query only. Use SQL mgmt. tools to do lots of queries. We have a login that only has read access.

We are hosted in the Infor Cloud and have read access to all table and R/W to all interface table. We step up odbc connection and use any tool. MS access, MS enterprise manager, etc...

I am business analyst and assistant system analyst. I am more in a technical role. We are 9.0.1, and moving to 10.0.9 soon. We are local. Our functional power users have a great understanding of MS Add-Ins and use that for queries in Excel.

Hi,

I hope you don't mind, but I do have one more question. I am being ask to give our technical staff a list of tables that I need SQL read access only to. The vendor (INFOR) is saying they cannot do this without a list of tables. I'm just really confused since I believe that INFOR should know what the Finance tables should be. Am I misunderstanding how SQL works in Lawson?

Unfortunately, I am a BA for the HR department and so are most familiar with those most used tables. As a technical person I have read only access to all the Lawson tables in LAWPROD. I would suggest if you are a Finance person that you go to all the forms you readily use and will report on and bring up the form, Press Ctrl+Alt+O (the letter o) and that will bring up the table and field name. The table shows only a prefix name. Do you have Microsoft Add-Ins queries for Excel? there is a place to put the prefix in and then it will tell you the table name. Otherwise, perhaps write down the prefix names for the tables and Infor can help you turn that into a table list.

Infor has "Data File Text" documents for every system code (GL, AP, IC, HR, etc...). The very first section of those documents lists all the tables used by that system code. Go to the KB and search for "data file text GL"

The Lawson applications typically are set up to connect to the database as a super use that has full access. Lawson security restricts access to the forms/applications so individual users don't need to exist in the Lawson database. Lawson users access the database behind the scenes as the super user account The Lawson reporting tools are integrated with Lawson security and don't require any additional database access. If you run Crystal Reports (or any other reporting tool) outside of Lawson, then you are connecting directly to the database and bypassing Lawson security. In this case, you need a database id and table level security.

They don't make it easy, do they? Using add-ins is one option to see all of the tables, but there are hundreds, and you would have to do some kind of screen shot or just write them down or whatever to give to IT. Another possibility is to work with your Lawson security admin and/or someone in IT who knows or can look at the GEN/ENV tables. Depending on how your LS Security is set up, you might be able to get that information in electronic format out of a security report. For example, depending on how your security classes are set up, you may have a security class that gives access to all tables in each of the system codes (GL, IF, AP, etc.)

On the Xtreme site, you can also find the Technical File Texts for the various screens, which list the tables referenced and updated. They are divided into systems like the Data Texts TimB mentioned. If you know which screen data you need, that can help gather a list, but the list would be extensive for all Finance areas.
