Deleting LSF Jobs and Job Logs LSF 10.0.9

Just thought I would share an issue I identified with space growing on my LSF application server.

if the users delete the job from their Job Scheduler, it does NOT delete the joblog on the app server.

Support just got back to me with the following "- it appears that this is a bug within IOS and we will be implementing a fix to remedy the issue "

So again, just thought I would share. I would have never noticed this had we not started investigating why space was growing.

Are you running deljobhst with the correct parameters?

We are not yet running that because Payroll wants to keep 'some' of their jobs for quarter or two, where accounting is fine to delete every 60 days.

I can't set the deljobhst with various parameters based on user... from what I've been told and understand from working with AMS via a ticket.

So I asked Payroll to at least go clean up their PR140's because they are taking excessive space on app server in less than one year of being live... because they never cleaned up anything. This is when I found if they delete the job, it doesn't remove the joblog.

But with support, it does if you delete it through LID and their first reply was just have users delete via LID or submit enhancement request.

I'm learning as I go for the most part but wanted to share in the event others may see this or not know.

For legal requirements, some data is needed to be retained for longer periods of time (3yr, 7yr, permanently). What do you use for your legal storage of records (for legal reasons) once the data needs to be rolled out of Lawson?

Typically the Lawson job data/logs are only available for a short (job data - till next job run, or job logs - until deljobhst is run).

We're currently using Infopac, but that's because we have a long history of mainframe data retention. Wondering what others are using.

We actually have some users who run reports for an entire year, then open them as pdf. Some of these pdf files a 1 GB in size. We are clearing out print files after 100 days with delhistjobs. We actually encourage payroll to move their files off to other storage for archival purposes. We are also keeping an eye on disk space usage and occasionally deleting the pdf files that are over 300 mb.

My issues aren't with the print files generated by the jobs. Payroll does save off to a network drive and delete accordingly.

Our issue is with the size of the joblogs produced by the PR140's (that's my main focus at this point as they are taking over 50g on app server.)

Until this fix I mentioned is available, I will need to sit with Payroll staff and see which they are okay to delete and then I find the correlating job log on app server and delete it.
