Printer setup in Lawson

We have built the printers onto the Lawson servers and now I am attempting to default printers to users. I have built the printer in the LSF Administration Tools under Printer Definitions, then added them to a Printer Group, then went into LSA and added it to the user but it's still not printing. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. All the notes I found through searching were for older versions. We are on V10.

Command on Printer Definition is: laprint MAT158067 <--printer name. Maybe the command is wrong?

I think you have to also put the server name in.

laprint -olandscape \<server name><printer name>

Not sure where the Security would be set up other than what I described above? Sorry, we have not received Security training yet so I'm a little lost.

You would use the Lawson Security Administrator Tool to set up a security class under the Environment Profile and add the printers that you created to it. You would then include that Security Class in a role that is assigned to the users.

Printers are secured in the Environment security profile in the Lawson Security Administrator.

This may not be applicable to you, but when we went from LID to Smart Office we had a lot of problems printing. It ended up being Unix permissions on the files and directory structure. Just wanted to mention that in case it applies to you.

here's a few other things: try to print to printer outside of Lawson if your on unix. from a unix command prompt (like LID) you should be able to issue the same command plus file name and see if any error. on AIX it's 'qstatus' to see if any hung jobs, sometimes I have to 'disable' and then 'enable' the printer name. Lastly, from my prtdef command structure is lp -dPrinterName but that depends on what printer driver the OS is using. Lastly, users usually can still get PDF version printed if they use the drop down menus as a work around. hope that helps.

The user was able to print without us setting a security class. One more question for you all - if we provide them multiple printers in their Group, how do they choose which printer they want to use at the time of Printing? Thank you all so much for your input!
