IC GL account not balancing - has negative value

HELP!!! I am hoping someone out there can give me some insight as to what could cause our GL Account for Inventory to have a negative balance. We are afraid that something is not posting correctly but cannot get a handle on it. Our VP has an Executive Board meeting and wants answers. I work with the Financial suite but also have some background with SC. I have looked at a number of reports and also did a ICTRANS query. I just need to know where to start looking for this.

Is it possible that someone performed average cost paints in IC99.2 on an item or several items?

IC99.2 changes aren't auditable (to my knowledge), but you could do a quick ITEMLOC query to see if there are any glaring disparities between the Last Cost and the Average Cost...

Perhaps review the IC04 setup - someone may have made an inappropriate change there. Data is stored in ICA/ICCATEGORY.

Thanks rcasey and Marybeth - I ran both of your queries as suggested but nothing unusual. I have a question regarding intercompany inventory transfers - how are they handled when posting to the GL

We don't use multi-company. Our "zone" balancing entries simply enter the necessary due to/due from accounts to balance each entity.

Try querying GLTRANS for the inventory account and review the source code on the entries. It might bring to light an adjustment or other change that is causing the strange fluctuation in the inventory balance.

Also - does the negative balance agree to the IC233 (or IC234? I forget which...)?

also - here's an ancient CUE (now Inforum) document that we grabbed "back in day" (when it was easier to obtain CUE presentations after-the-fact).

Has there been a recent physical count conducted? Maybe counts were put in wrong when a physical was done.
