Using Business Objects Central Management Console to FTP file to cloud

Hi-

We are going to the cloud platform and I am working on converting my Crystal Reports to the cloud. I have many that create file extracts and are run on a schedule via Business Obects CMC. For the destination in my on-premise world, I use 'File System' because the server is on premise. I don't have that option in the cloud and I believe I must use the 'FTP Server' option. When I plug in my credentials for this method and run my report, it gives me this error:

Destination disabled. [CrystalEnterprise.Ftp]: []. Please note the name of the job server used for your request and contact your system administrator to make sure the specified destination is enabled. (FWB 00031)

We don't have a system administrator for Business Objects, so I can't find anyone internally to help me with this.

Does anyone use this method to run their Crystal reports that create files? Or what do you use? Thanks!

Sorry I can't speak to the FTP situation.

I don't see why you're having such trouble. I must ask, Why can't you output to a file location 'in the cloud', set that as a share, and then map that share to a mapped drive on PC's and servers in your on-premise world?

Also, I have seen drives mounted on local servers, running on the Amazon EC2 file service 'in the cloud'. Works like a charm. When mapping to them, I treat them as if they are on-premise storage, and the computers have no trouble with them.

They don't allow us to have shares in the cloud. We can only use FTP to get to our files in the cloud.

You will need someone with access to the Central Management Console to set this up. They need to go to the Servers page, and find the Crystal Reports Job Server. There's an option for Destinations and you need to add FTP to the enabled list of destinations.

It was possible to transfer files via FTP back in the 1980's. Methinks the buzzword "the cloud" is being used here to refer to what is actually just a remote server. In a truly cloud-connected application, there is no difference between on-premise and cloud storage, except for the name of the resource. Oh well. Hope you get it straightened out. And BTW, FTP is being rapidly disused in favor of more secure SFTP or FTPS.

It's all set up by Infor. They give us FTP users to access only certain directories in the cloud. We have to use Filezilla FTP to see or view our files (the ones we have access to). Your hands are tied when you go to the cloud.
