Location Rule - WH05.1

I am wondering if it is possible to have a requesting location assigned a location rule that will pull an inventory item from the secondary location even if it isn't stocked in the primary location.

For instance, Req Loc 1 is set to replenish from Loc A. However, Loc A doesn't have any active stock items because it isn't a true inventory location just a ship to. But some of the requested items are inventory in Loc B. Can a location rule pull the items from Loc B even though they aren't stocked in Loc A? Or does the item have to be stocked in both locations for Loc B to work as a backup? We would like for non-stocks to ship to Loc A and inventory items that are stocked in Loc B to come from there instead of having everything come as a non-stock. Any one have experience with this? I do not have any experience with it but if I were testing and had:

RQ01: ReqLoc: TEST; From Loc: A; Location Rule: PULLB and it still tried to order from A -- then I would put it in IC12 for A as Inactive and see what it did.

Location Rules only allocate Stock Items to another warehouse. In your example you would have to have all of your items assigned to Loc A. We built an IPA to look at the default location assigned to the Req Loc just prior to getting routed for approval processing. Our build has the warehouse as the default for the Req Loc (your Loc

If the item is not associated with Loc B the IPA changes the items source to Loc A. It then releases the requisition back into approval processing.

A Location Rule can be set on the requesting Location, Req Header, and Req Line.

If the item cannot be fully sourced from the first location, it will look to the next, and so on. It can partially fill from the last location.

This is the way we are going to do:

1. Create Location Rule - Loc A level 1 (ship to), Loc B level 2 (warehouse)

2. Loc A will be given all of the same items as Loc B, but with no auto purchasing, no SOH, and no bin tracking. You do have to have inventory tracking on and allow issues on.

3. Assign Location Rule to requesting locations

4. Requisitions for the stock items in B will be found in A, but can't be fulfilled. So they will pull from B. All non-stocks will go to PO with a ship to of Loc A.

I should add that the reason we are doing this is because Loc A and Loc B are 80 miles apart. However, we still want stock items from B to go to A instead of having all items come in as non-stock.
