What does everyone use for financial reporting

Hello, just curious what everyone uses for reporting. We are going to be reimplementing in Jan 2018 and with that we are going to have a restructured chart of accounts meaning we have to recreate all of our many financial statements from scratch. Our company has used Crystal reports for this but was wondering about SSRS or other options. Thoughts?

We use Global Financials and Synoptix. We used standard financials for a while but when we re-implemented we went to GF and the reporting tool in there is much better and easier to use. GF is a much better product than standard. As you are reimplementing you might consider it.

Beside the reporting toolbox, what else is different between standard and global financials?

It is a much more accountant friendly financial package. For starters you have much better control over your chart of accounts because you have a system based on account categories, natural accounts and multiple account segments. This then lets you get more in depth with your reporting. It is much easier to create divisions, business units, business lines, etc. that can then be reported on by segment.

It also has what it calls control accounts, which basically means that your cash, A/P and A/R accounts are locked to anything but proper transactions, no JE's can be done to them. This helps to keep your aging reports and those reports related to these accounts correct.

Foreign currency is much better. I can have exchange rates between something other than my functional currency and a foreign currency; i.e. foreign to foreign rates.

Consolidating companies is very easy, especially if you have multiple manufacturing databases or even a multi-site, multi-entity database. Also, there are several areas where I can pull information together from all entities on a single screen, such as A/P or A/R without having to print multiple agings.

I can also pay or receive on behalf of another entity and it will create the appropriate intercompany entries.

There are numerous other things and it may be geared toward multi entity environments but I will say after having used both I would prefer GF over standard even if we were in a single entity environment. Just a better program.

Again, even VISUAL will admit that Standard Financials was a financial package built onto VISUAL manufacturing, it was secondary to manufacturing. Global was built to be a true financial package.

I'm personally not a fan of Crystal Reports as I find it hard to use. Also, it is difficult for the user to find and run the customized reports through the ERP. So we use SSRS for almost all of our reporting. Free, easy to develop and use, and it meets all our needs.
