Training RQC users

Curious as to what methods users are utilizing to train RQC. We have 17 hospitals and several hundred clinics and would like something more robust then powerpoint or a video so we can test competency. Appreciate any feedback. (on Version 10)

When we went live on RQC we had 300+ people to train. We took 2 weeks & had onsite open labs at 3 different sites so users could take it for a test drive. It was very successful. Ongoing training is done via webinar (like gotomeeting) or, if there is a large enough group, we go to them, or they come to us, & they are shown how to use the module & given a manual to take with them. We have mixed results. We have nothing at the moment to measure competency other than the number of support calls we field & the difficulty level of the question(s). We have ideas to make quick ref guides available on our intranet but resources are strained at this time.

We are about the same size system as you, but are still on V9. We have a trainer job function and schedules dates and times at each of the facilities to discuss/train RQC on site.

You had mentioned testing competency. You could create a training quiz in PowerPoint that users could take on important functions that you can administer. I had created one for a different training opportunity in our department. You can find articles on how to also store the answers that were submitted in an Excel document. If you have it available, Adobe Captivate can also help with training. I have not used it to create training myself, but much of our system training is created using it.

We were early adopters from SEA and when we rolled out RSS, we brought in outside trainers and had "train the trainer" sessions for a week. To convert 1200 users, we had 3 hour training sessions (most ran 2 hours) one morning and one afternoon and we had them in two locations so we were able to do 4 a day with the outside trainers help. I did 2 night shift sessions and 2 3-11 sessions as well.

Then we "flipped the switch" and went live all at once with links to the training guide on our info page. Attached is our current guide.

When we first went live we had a week of two hour training sessions at various times (we'd been paper before so going automated was a huge change). As new employees come on that will need to order, we require them to view a 15 minute training module (built in Powerpoint) before we will grant them access. When they have access, we send them an email that has some quick tips and screenshots as answers to commonly asked questions. Our original version (before it was corrupted) of the module had training questions that they had to answer; the current version is informational only.
