Modify EMSS Life Events

We need to modify the EMSS Life Events to work differently than designed. Existing events are:

* Birth changed title to Birth/Adopt
* Divorce changed title to Divorce/Legal Separation
* Move changed title to Full Time to Part Time
* Legal Separation changed title to Gain of Other Coverage
* Spouse Employment changed title to Loss of Other Coverage
* Marriage remained untouched
* Adoption changed title to Part Time to Full Time

Most of the changes work well with the information collected previously with the exception of Move changing to Full Time to Part Time. It only collects a change of address. It doesn't prompt for benefit information modifications. How can we change it to work like Marriage or any of the others? Has anyone modified the EMSS to work for their institution other than changing the titles?

We have modified EMSS before but it's a really, really bad idea. You will have to reprogram the change into EMSS for every release, service pack, and potentially patch (ever time the source file is replaced). You won't be able to get support because as soon as Infor finds out that you have modified the code, the support call is over. They aren't in a position to support your changes. The new mindset is configuration over customization. We won't be able to customize the product in the future. If there is functionality that you just have to have, there is always the option to develop your own application and interface it with Lawson.

We don't use the life event functionality to handle status changes since Lawson didn't build this functionality in. What we did is use the Annual Enrollment functionality to handle this. We created a manual employee group for each month of the year and set those up on BS01 with the appropriate dates. We then wrote an IPA flow that reads changes in status every day and if someone is eligible to enroll, it adds them to the appropriate employee group as well as adding the end date of their enrollment period to their HR11 benefit dates. It then checks for people who are past their enrollment date and removes them from the employee group. The IPA flow also sends them an email to let them know they can enroll and has verbiage our HR department designed.

The downside of this is that you can't use this during the open enrollment period. We switch to manual enrollment during that time.

We created a separate entry screen for 'other life events' for those that did not meet what was listed and then just added a bookmark for that. If you want to compare the difference between an address type change and one that prompts you for other changes you could compare the empaddress.htm and marriage1.htm as an example.
