Windows Server OS upgrade from 2008 to 2012

I thought I saw a previous post about this but haven't been able to find it.

Wondering if anyone has done this yet.

Our server admins indicate they have to build all new servers to run 2012 r2 and then I'll have to work with Infor Consulting Services to do whatever may need done to migrate from 2008 server over to 2012

I'm concerned about the new server build, ssl certs, and connectivity between all the pieces/parts.

They (my guys) told me the could rename the servers to be the same name and ip as the 2008 ones when they 'shut down' the 2008

We have Landmark/LTM, LSF/payroll-gl, LBI and test servers for each of those.

Plus the sql servers

Any insight would be appreciated.
I'm trying to find out if staying on 2008 another year affects our contracts since they published in October they no longer support running on Windows 2008

But our budget timeline has already passed and I didn't get quotes to budget for Infor Consulting for this.

We just went thru' this whole exercise, of building all new servers for lbi, landmark, ming.le, smart office and ldap on windows 2012 R2, with Infor consulting services. In addition our LSF was on AIX and since breaking and making a new federation between, landmark and lsf is not possible, we also, had to purchase a new AIX server (which we went with Linux) and build all the lsf components as well and federate this new lsf with the new landmark on 2012 R2

I'm guessing there was no way you could do this on your own,... Infor Consulting would be needed...

new SQL Servers would not be a problem as this can surgically updated in most environments. You could do them ahead of time (i.e. now).

New externally generated Certs can also be done, with several exceptions. For example, Grid/Landmark use their own internally generated certs at install.

We're going though a Landmark upgrade (LSF on Linux), and found that the re-federation is not a trivial task. (Make sure your LDAP data is clean!!) There isn't an easy, documented procedure to make it work, so ICS direction is crucial.

I would highly recommend using ICS.

Mixed version of products would also complicate matters. You may find you need to upgrade various components in the process.

Not to be an ICS poster child, but sometimes it's prudent to spend the money up front for ICS or another certified consultant.

It will affect your Micro Focus licensing as 2012 R2 uses MF Visual Cobol for Windows Compiler and the licenses for the old compiler does not transfer. You will want to get with your Infor Sales Manager to get a quote for the new licenses.
