Oracle Upgrade Approach 9i to 12g

Hello Baan gurus,

We are upgrading Oracle DB from 9i to 12g and from Unix to Linux on new hardware. I wanted to know what would be the best approach from the below options.

1. Install 9i in the new server, migrate the data on 9i, then upgrade to 12g (OR)

2. Install 12g on the new server and migrate the data.

Which of the above options is better for minimum errors and less impact on the Baan tables/schema?

Good Day !!

This is something migration experts needs to take a call based on how they would be migrating data. Some points to be considered related to Oracle 12c are:



1) Oracle 12.1 introduced new collations that match UCA (Unicode Collation Algorithm). See http://www.unicode.org.

With the introduction of the new UCA collations, it is not required to use the INFOR_GENERIC_M collation for LN

installations. So for Oracle 12, INFOR_GENERIC_M is not supported anymore.

2) With Oracle 12.2, Oracle introduced a new collation: UCA0700_DUCET_VN. With porting set 9.1c.01 this new collation

will be used for new installations. For existing installations nothing changes.

3) For Oracle 12, the minimal size for db_block_size is 16k. This is the maximum size for Windows, but not the default

size. On Unix/Linux a db_block_size of 32k is preferred.
