PR297 showing incorrect state wages

We had to process PR82s for 4 employees who worked in a new state. Their PR52 for 2017 is showing the correct wages for each state, for example Minnesota and New York. When we run the PR297 it is showing the New York wages equal to the federal wages instead of being the amount listed on the PR52. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how do we fix it since PR52 is showing correct? Incident has been opened with lawson.

We have the same issue on 1 employee. We have not found a solution.

I believe that the PR297 is is actually functioning as designed. You'll want to refer to publication NY-50 - Employer's Guide to Unemployment Insurance, Wage Reporting, and Withholding Tax. There is a section on W-2 forms. In particular, it states:

Part-year New York State residents — For a part-year New York

State resident, the amount of wages that must be reported in the State

wages, tips, etc. box on federal form W-2 is the same amount as the

federal wages required to be reported in box 1, Wages, tips, other

compensation. That amount is federal wages before any allocation that

the employee may have claimed on Form IT-2104.1. The employee will

allocate the part of the employee’s federal wages that is attributable

to services performed in New York State during the employee’s

nonresident period when the employee files his or her New York State

part-year resident income tax return.

Thanks for the information. However these employees are not residents of New York State. They are residents of Minnesota and primarily work in Minnesota but had a small percentage of their work time in New York State.

I still think the system is doing what it's supposed to. Per the NY50

"If at any time during the tax year a nonresident employee performs services in New

York State (for example, two days a week, every other week, every

other month, one month a year, etc.), the amount of wages that must

be reported in the State wages, tips, etc. box on federal Form W-2

is the same amount of federal wages required to be reported in box
