Missing LP Plan Accruals

Curious if anyone has a standard process they use to calculate missing accruals on an employee. We have times where we have to correct the service begin date on an employee and the system does not go back and recalculate the missed accurals. Wondering how other organizations calculate the missed amount.

Calculating missed accruals for a long period of time is miserable if your plans calculate on hours worked, like many of our plans do. We sort of handle each issue on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes I have purged the plan and started it over with the new dates to calculate the missed accruals. Doing this, however, you need to capture any manual adjustments and usage records and add them back since the recalc only does the accrual. Other times I have pulled service records into an Excel spreadsheet with formulas to back-calculate. For really long time-frame incidents, we have come to an agreement with the employee to just make a one-time monetary compensation, based on an estimate of the missed accruals.

This is not fun! I have had to do this, but only for relatively short periods of time (a month or two). What I've done (after changing the service begin date) is to run LP188 to make sure the service hours are up-to-date for that date range, and then I run LP140/LP197 (for processing option 8, Accruals/Allotments)...multiple times. I run it once for each pay period that was missed and that we need an accrual calculated for. So, the date I put in LP140 will be different each time, and should be the date it would have run in the normal way (if this plan had been active then). Done this way, the transaction history will end up looking 'normal' and will have the expected dates (and accrual amounts per pay period).
