Configuration Console - conditions

Wondering if anyone has had any luck with figuring out how to populate a field based on the answer in another field. Example... on employee entering a goal in Goal Management we are wanting when they enter the GoalYear that the Start Date of the the Goal Year to automatically default in. I am struggling figuring out how to accomplish this.

In configuration console you can use "initial value" rules when creating the record (Action type of Create). For an update of a record you need "when value changed" (Action type of Update, Instance). See the Landmark developer guide for config console on docs.infor.com for examples.

So far I am seeing where I can put in an initial value which I understand or build a constraint. But cannot figure out how to populate that initial value based on another field.

On a Create, one example is on Job:

Job

initial value is Position.Job

This initial values the Job field based on what is in Position's Job field.

I don't have this particular issue, but this case has been enlightening! I will definitely go find that manual referenced. Anyway, I hope it's okay I ask this: I created a custom field for employees to Opt In or Out of receiving our hospital alerts. Defaulting to No. It's in their Profile, At A glance. However, for Managers it is mandatory so I am trying to "hide" it on their form. I have tried to use the visible but nothing I am trying is working. I get lpl errors and the selection in the drop down is huge. I'm sure it's quite simple, but I am missing something. Can anyone help?

Can you post the visible when LPL that you tried? If the condition you used was a UserCondition please add that too.

This may not be the BEST way, but here's what I would do:

1. create a user field (type condition) in the employee business class where true is PrimaryWorkAssignment.Position.PositionIsSupervisor.AssignmentIsSupervisorCount>0

2. use that condition to set your valid when (or visible when if you prefer) condition on the LRCEmployeeAtAGlanceDetail

I had changed it so much. What I was trying to do is type in Visible when not (IsSupervisor). I looked for various conditions but couldn't find one that would serve the purpose. I had never created a conditional field before. I read the other two ideas and came up with something that appears to be working. I'm going to post it. Thank you so much~

Thanks again everyone! I have never created my own conditional field but it seems to have worked. Some of our staff have dual positions & one of the staff in HR indicated that being a supervisor doesn't mean they have to have it as their primary work assignment, therefore I did it two different ways, but not sure which one I should use, but thinking the second one & then just testing it. Created in the Employee Business class "HideSupervisor" conditional field-Did two ways:

One-(PrimaryWorkAssignment.AssignmentIsSupervisor = false)

Another is: (IsSupervisor = false)

I then put on the LRCEmployeeAtAGlanceDetail is a Form:

visible when (HideSupervisor)

ALERTOPTION

Note: It's the ALERTOPTION field I am "hiding from the supervisors". Do these make sense? They seem to be working, but have only tested under 1 test user as a supervisor & myself as an employee.

Also, when I spoke to HR, she thought that I should not hide from supervisors but just not let them change it. Is that possible to display only for supervisors via configurations or would I have to try to do it in security? Just in case they want me to proceed with that route.
