Issue UOM for Self Distribution?

Hello everyone,

This has been a long standing issue - so I apologize in advance if I am double posting!

We are a self distributing organization. In our warehouse (we do not use Infor Warehouse), we have items that we will only issue out by what we call the "Break UOM" (i.e. Case). Those items will be shipped out to our store rooms, where they might be issued by a smaller UOM (i.e. Box). The stock UOM on these items is frequently the lowest expense-able UOM (i.e. Each).

Unfortunately, this means that the Warehouse will frequently get orders below the break UOM. For example, OR will configure their par quantities as Each and will place an order to replenish at the Each quantity.

We are looking into using IPA to prevent this issue. Before going down that path, I am wondering if anyone else has come up with a resolution. We have put guard rails in place by changing the Transaction Default UOM in IC12 to equal the Break UOM in our Warehouse system. This helps a bit with templates, but we still have users who will manually change the UOM to something less than our Break UOM.

It would be nice to have a big field in IC12 called "ISSUE UOM" that would be the lowest Issue-able UOM.

Depends on the version of Apps, but you should have a Transaction default UOM in IC12 to force the UOM to not be the lowest stock.

Gretchen - we are on Version 10.

We do set the Transaction Default UOM in IC12. Unfortunately, it does not seem to prevent someone from overriding it at the req level or on a par cart. Those only seem to care about allowable Trans UOM in IC11

I see. Not sure, how you get around that. but I'm very interested in the self distribution model you're using. How long?

Is Infor Warehouse something new or do you mean you don't use the WH (warehouse) jobs and screens, WH130, WH32, etc., to process incoming orders? Are these smaller storerooms actual asset locations or are they PAR (expense) locations. Trying to understand your inventory process.

Jon - we do not use WH.

The smaller store rooms are asset locations.

Ok, yes I agree with Gretchen. I think educating the staff not to change the default UOM on their orders is the only way. If the smaller storerooms are issuing at that base (stock) UOM it's also going to be available to use for ordering.

Yes, IC12 sets the default, but if it is a valid Trans UOM, it will allow it. We have a report running nightly to tell us when the IC81 UOM doesn't match the IC12 field. Doesn't stop it entirely, but stops the IC81 from staying wrong.

But if your Warehouse isn't in IC12? (I'm not sure what you meant by that?) then it wouldn't help you.
