MSCM Android Platform Handhelds

We just starting testing with the Android platform on a Zebra TC8000 with MSCM version 10.1.8.13 and are running into multiple issues with it. One being that it's so extremely slow, we wouldn't be able to roll it out to the rest of the staff and two, when receiving PO lines, it seems to add all quantities on the PO to each PO line when you view the receipt in PO30. We've tested with our Windows handheld for the same scenarios and everything works fine.

We're wondering if anyone is using the Android handhelds for Receiving/Delivery and Par & Cycle Counting. If so, how is it going, have you run into issues, etc? We were hoping for a "How To" document that included screenshots as our staff have said the Android is completely different than how the Windows platform operates. Thanks in advance!

Hi Jordan,

The slowness on the Android devices that you're referring to is an issue that is very intermittent among our Android users. Unfortunately, it's hard to provide a definitive answer on what's wrong without having more information, as there could be a number of different reasons why MSCM is running so slow. We have a couple of customers who are currently experiencing something similar and it's being investigated. Do you have a ticket open in Xtreme that we can use for reference on this? If you can provide that, I'll make sure that your case is being included as we dig into this issue further.

The problem concerning the additional PO quantities is not an issue that I've come across before. It is not working as intended, which means that it's most likely bug related. Once again, an Xtreme ticket would be helpful here so our Support team can address this problem appropriately.

As far as the Android RAD and MPC processes are concerned, the functionality works the exact same as it does on the Windows platform. The major differences here are the look and feel of the application, as well as the elimination of redundant screens and unnecessary clicks. The steps were designed to feel a lot more intuitive than the Windows counterpart as well, so it may just take some time for your staff to acclimate themselves with the new user interface. I appreciate the response. We do have an incident open that our distribution coordinator entered, it looks like he has both the slowness and the PO quantity issue in the same incident - 11485360. We’re looking to update to 10.1.8.13 from 10.1.8.9 so we can get support with Code 39 barcode. Using Honeywell CT50 HH on KK.

We got close to implementing, but found an issue with Code 39 Barcoding. If you're utilizing MSCM labels this shouldn't be an issue but we're using Nice Label and didn't include the check digit like it has in MSCM. Support for this has been included in 10.1.8.12 so we won't have to re-label.

Are you experiencing the abnormal way of logging in where you have to click on the profile link below the initial logon screen, swipe the tiny environment bar to get to another logon screen to be able to sign in? There’s a JT out for this, but curious if others are seeing this as well.

Based on my testing of Android, I agree with Jonathan it's going to take time for users to get acclimated with new UI. I've personally gotten stuck on some screens not knowing where to click next, but it seems like the secret spot is the upper right hand corner.

I have a couple of questions:

Was it faster on a different version of MSCM or was 10.1.8.13 your implementation version for Android?

We plan on rolling out PO receipts soon, I’m interested in testing what you’re experiencing with PO receipts. Can you list the steps you’re taking to duplicate the issue.

LXiong, I work with Jordan and am currently testing MSCM 10.1.8.13.

I cannot speak to the speed since our implementation was 10.1.8.13.

The steps for duplicating the receiving error is as follows: Receive a multiple line PO from the handheld like normal. Once you send it from the handheld, go to PO30. Enter the PO and you should see it in unreleased status. The received quantities should be incorrect.
