Default custom field value based on work assignment or position

I'm trying o default custom Boolean field to multiple values based on workassignments and positions and no default value for all others. Is there some place that would give me an example of how to do this?

I have been looking at that, as you had referenced it elsewhere, but there is a lot in there and I'm having a hard time finding specifically what I am looking for.

Could you psuedo-code what you are thinking / trying here with some specific fields and values?

You either need initial value or when value changed here. I'm really not sure without more information.

Okay, not nearly as technical as many, as you know, so I'll do my best:

Right now I have the field that allows supervisors to view only and others to change.

Field & Field condition:

Employee is a BusinessClass

owned by hr

Persistent Fields

EmergencyAlerts is Boolean

default label is untranslatable:"Select to receive Hurley Emergency Alerts"

Employee is a BusinessClass

owned by hr

Conditions

Canselect

default label is untranslatable:"CanSelect"

when (PrimaryWorkAssignment.AssignmentIsSupervisor not entered)

I then have it on the form for the field/condition as follows:

valid when (Canselect)

EmergencyAlerts

button of untranslatable:"Click here for more details"

This works fine in that non supervisors can select or un-select and save their selection and Supervisors can only view it. (I also will be adding a particular position that can only view).

Here's where I am having a problem. We want the default value for the button (EmergencyAlerts field) for Supervisors to be "true" (checked) and everyone else that can change it to be "false" initially.

I have even tried to create a new field and can't seem to get it to default to being checked.

I've created Alpha fields in the past with states: Yes/No and was able to get them to default with "No" but I can't seem to get this right with this field.

I am not sure if this helps explain what I am trying to do, but I appreciate it.
