MSP Releases - How long after GA do most customers wait to install?

Good morning,

Question on Lawson MSP releases from Infor. How long after GA do most customers wait to install, trusting most of the major bugs have been worked out?

We are currently on MSP 10.0.5 and are looking to install 10.0.7 in August 2018. 10.0.8 just came out in May 2018. Not sure if enough time has passed yet with the 10.0.8 release to consider installing rather than 10.0.7. Just curious what "rule-of-thumb" most customers use.

Rule of thumb, we wait about 2 years after GA to upgrade. However, that will depend on which MSP has the least reported bugs.

Ethan- We just did the MSP 10.0.5 to 10.0.7 jump and it went pretty smoothly. We also did an ESP from 10.0.8 to 10.0.9, that also went fine. For ESP's we have waited a minimum of 6 months (usually longer) and we ran for 2 1/2 years on 10.0.5 before we made the jump to 10.0.7, so I would say don't even waste your time looking at 10.0.8 at this point........

Our "rule of thumb" is to install the latest/greatest when we begin testing. We take the latest MSP along with several ctps that hit key screens. The reasoning is that once you encounter an issue during testing, Infor will almost immediately suggest that you update your code to see if it resolves the issue. If you code is already up-to-date, you save the time of and energy of installing a ctp that might update a lot of screens/functionality that you have already tested, and will now need to re-test. When we did not follow this process (way back with v8.0.3) we got nailed hard upon go-live when several scenarios that weren't encountered in testing reared their ugly heads. We went so far as to "throw" the next MSP into prod about two weeks later because it was so bad. I'm thankful that we have never experienced an upgrade like that since!

We generally use the same as MaryBeth. Download the (reasonably) latest. Occasionally, we may wait a short time if a new release is imminent. By the time we get through testing, it has been months so there may be some minor version updates. We have very few surprises when we hit production.

We generally grab both ESP and MSP at the same time (test both at one time). We've found that often we're stuck getting both ESP and MSP as some features in the MSP (or IPA or other apps) require some later version of ESP.

What MSP did you end up applying 7 or 8? I am looking to update our code as well and wondered if you had any feedback on MSP8. Thanks!
