How to add extra validation to "Save" action button.

Hi there,

Syteline 9

I need to add validation to SAVE button on Items form, so when user saves Item it is validated does item matches to wild card "dd-dddddd-dd" and shows error message and not save if validation failed.

Where I can i find the code which implement SAVE buttons actions?

Hi,

You could likely add a validator to that field on the form. I haven't setup something specifically for the situation you mention but I have done it for similar things in the past. If you wanted to handle this through code you could write a method in the form script and call it on the StdFormPerformValidations event.

Dylan , thank you for answer.

I'm in very beginning of Syteline 9(we just upgrade from SL5).

How can I open scripts editor to add new scripts?
Where should I define which form I want this event to be applied to? Events Actions Parameters? Script itself?

You're one version newer than we are here. We're 9.00.30, but from your UI it looks like you're on 9.01 so I'm not sure how different this is but should be pretty similar I think.

In order to open script editor in our version I go to System in the top left corner, then Edit, then Script Editor... This will bring up the form script for the form you have open, which is different from the Script menu which I think is used for scripts to be used on many forms. I've only worked with form scripts so far.

As for the event you set that up within the form as well. You would go to System again, then Edit, then Event Handlers. From here you just add a new record selecting the Event you'd like to handle, and the response type (you'd want to select Form Script Method. The parameters would be the name of the method.

I'm not too sure how different the UI is between our versions but it shouldn't be too far off.

Hm... I don't have System button((( It can be differences in the versions or not enough permission.
