Definition of "Process Type".

Hello,

I would like to know the definition of the term Process Type as it is used as a pull down menu item in Part maintenance.  The documentation suggest that it has to do with the Lead-Time performance functions as a filter but how does one actually define a process type?  Machining is a process but is only one small step in a manufacturing process.  How can a manufactured part with many processes have a single process type?  Is there other documentation that would better explain the details of this field a little better and perhaps show an example?

From what I understand it is really meant for a shop where there are more or less set times for standard processes, or rough estimates so that when a RFQ comes in there's at least a baseline for the total Lead Time.



Process: Generator Rewind

1.) Receive RFQ and Respond - 1 day

2.) Get crucial information from Customer - 1 Day

3.) Engineering Review of RFQ and Build Quote - 4 Days

4.) Customer Decision for Quote - 2 days

5.) Get Custom Fab Parts from Suppliers - 10 days

6.) Inhouse Rewind Manufacturing Process - 15 days [Scheduler Covers this]

7.) Ship Part to Customer - 5 days



Total Lead Time - 38 days



It does capture the non-manufacturing processes, so there is certainly value there. Depending on how you have Visual Parts setup, this could be extremely valuable. Depends.
