BN 105

I am not sure if I need to run the BN105 before I load my open enrollment files for benefits effective 01/01/2019 or after the benefits are loaded. I tried updating one plan with the BN105 and it just added a 2019 record - which isn't necessarily correct. My notes say it needs to be ran prior to the files loading, but the 2019 record addition is throwing me off.

You don't have to run unless something changed on the plan (BN15) - usually that is the rates. You are right the BN105 will create the new enrollments. What I generally do is when I add the new rates - I make them inactive. You will still need to run the BN105, but since the rates are inactive no new rows. Then I just reactivate the rates (shouldn't have to re-run BN105 just for activating (but BN220 will tell you if you need to). Then load the enrollments.

We always load the open enrollment files first and then run the BN105.

One year the BN105 got run before the OE records and it caused problems. It creates 1/1/xx records for all current enrollees and emps could have elected different benefit options during OE. Example: Employee is currently enrolled in Health plan A but during OE they elected to change to Health plan B. The BN105 created a 1/1/xx record for HL plan A and then when loading OE records it created a 1/1/xx record for health plan B. As a result our yearend/OE job doc has bold letters of "Do Not Run BN105 until after all OE records are loaded". Maybe there was a better way to prevent our issues but for the time being that is our process. :-)
