GTIN sourcing and UOM

What is everyone using to get GTIN information for their item master items? We've held off trying to wait for the majority of them to be available but are getting hard pushback from our EMR who have to have that information passed to them in our interface.  One thing I am especially concerned with is that we don't stock or buy the items in the lowest unit of measure....I have user fields defined that divide our contract box cost by the conversion so that we can send EPIC what the "each" price would be.

I don't really want to junk up the IC11 with units of measure that we are never going to use. Thoughts?

We've received GTIN info from the manufacturer mostly. I know St. Jude and Boston Scientific has given us data. We've also looked up GTIN info on the NIH web site (accessgudid.nlm.nih.gov/). I've tried in the past to download their full release with the intention of bumping it up against our item master but I've never been able to convert the xml files to xls - Excel just locks up. Tried opening the files up with IE and Chrome too but those lock up as well.



Regarding your UOM issue, we generally have every item converted to the patient use level so most GTINs can be loaded at the EA. Since you don't do this you may need to use another user field to store the GTIN at that level and pass that field to your EMR.
