Is anyone tracking items at the lot/serial number level?

As part of our Meaningful Use project, we are looking at tracking individual instances of items down to the lot/serial numbers and expiration dates.

We hope to pass this inventory information over to Cerner/Surginet for use in the O.R.

Is anyone out there doing this or something like this?

Our Point of Use application works with Mobile Supply Chain in order to scan and maintain lot, serial and expiration dates at the point of delivery all the way to the product's use in the OR. Anyone know if this can be done in EAM? I'm trying to do something similar in EAM. I'm just not sure how to tie the inventory to the LOT or I guess where to do that?

I am looking for similar information for tissue tracking. We use Cerner/SurgiNet and MSCM. No Point of Use system. Would like to be able to track the tissue from PO to receipt to delivery to the OR. It is a big black hole for us right no with Joint.

Did you ever find anything here? We turned on lots in EAM and then have started trying to use them. The problem we are running into right now is that the po receipt doesn't seem to let you receive a po line by lot. So you have to go back in and create a po receipt header and lines for each lot. It is very cumbersome. I'm hoping there is another way and we just haven't found it yet. Other than that lots work well it seems.

There is a UDI feature for Lawson to track GTIN, Lot, Serial, Expiration, etc. from receiving to issue. IC524 is used as the item master extract for the clinical systems. GTIN, Lot, Expiration are available. Clinical Bridge interfaces IC524 data to Epic, Cerner, and others. Not sure if Epic, Cerner, or other clinical applications support these details in their item interfaces.

Otherwise, the Patient Procedure screen can record these case and item details for the Requisition and PO lines. This information can be sent to the vendor for UDI and Bill Only purposes.
