ADFS CONVERSION

Hello All,

Our organization is in the process of gathering required information to convert from LS as STS to ADFS.

We have received conflicting information from different organzations; some stating that the conversion can most defininitely be done in-house, while others are saying it should be contracted out due to its complexity and some issues encountered during the conversion.

We're trying to decide which direction to go.

Can anyone provide their opinions/experiences related to this conversion?

Did you encounter errors that were difficult to resolve? What was the length of time required to complete this conversion?

If you are/were a Lawson Administrator, is this a task that can be accomplished seamlessly with the skills set of an admin?

I'm looking for any and all information I can get so that we can make an educated decision as to whether we want to try this in-house or contract it out.

It depends upon whether or not you installed the existing system and have that level of knowledge and experience. If you are using http vs https, you will need to convert Ming.le/SharePoint and LSF to use https as this is required by ADFS. You may also need to update the version of the Environment, (along with Portal, WebSphere, Java, etc.) to support ADFS. So the complexity of the project can very depending upon your configuration. We used Intellias for the upgrade. They did an excellent job.

As a disclaimer, I work for a company that does such conversions.

Nevertheless, personally I think it's difficult to do in-house. There are many fine details that apply to "main" LSF/LM as well as supplemental applications, from compatibility to usability, that you may want to address in a course of such project.

Regular Lawson Admin skill will not be sufficient for that (again, in my opinion). Re: duration - usually "pure" conversion (without other upgrades) in TEST takes a week or two, depending on the complexity of your system, while the go-live can generally be accomplished over the weekend. Every situation is different, though. We have seen conversions taking longer time, or less time, depending on the current setup, component versions and additional upgrades that a client may want to accomplish as part of this project.

Most importantly, ADFS conversion requires careful planning, and your decisions may have significant impact on the performance, usability and on-going support of your system.
