Permsmaint - do any of you run this when you create a new product line?

I was just told that this command had to be run for any new PL...and I have never heard that before. I had created a new one, last week...and just found that our DEV team could not compile in that PL.

The error was:

Error: StoreRptMap Failed on Program HR11
PrcRPT(): Errors Encountered In 'rptgen -t'
E:lsf10tstgen/bin/bismark: Error Encountered In Execution

Consulted our who-ya-gonna-call guy (whenever we get stumped!) and he said we needed to run Permsmaint, and we should do that for every new PL. This is really weird because we've created other product lines and I know we did not run that command. But I ran it, and it fixed the issue. We are Windows, on 10.0.9.

Just wondering what the rest of you do.

HI yes, it's a old command for LSF but often we called it the "nuclear option" just not knowing what else it might do - rarely do we need to run it with any updates but sometimes it's the only fix to find a file permissions that because too tight. glad you asked - and glad to hear how often others use it. we are on Unix.

this error is because your programs do not have the right permissions. using permsmaint, you can globally set the permissions on all the apps, so, it is the easiest way, but you can also, use the command chmod, if you are on unix.

And yes, I do run permsmaint, everytime, I create a new environment and or productline.

Thanks for the information. It is so odd, as I have created many product lines, over many years of doing this...and never once have I needed to run this command. However, since I had a vague recollection of the term, I searched through old emails and I found where our consultant ran it, on the new (at the time) prod LSF10 server, when there was a similar compile problem.

I believe that because my account existed in a particular user group (LAWDEV) on this test server, that I had the necessary rights to compile, but the rest of the team did not. And these last two product lines were probably not ever compiled by anyone else. Both our prod and test servers are fairly new, so we are still dealing with little "surprises" like this now and then.

So now I know...new PL, run permsmaint. And by the way...I had to run it with the least restrictive setting. The middle one caused problems.
