Dotted-line feature in TM

We have several situations where more than one manager "manages" an employee. Just curious how other facilities are using the dotted line function in TM? Do you train that the primary manager does X, Y, Z and the dotted line does A and B? Or are the responsibilities 100% shared? Is this feature working well for your facility?
