CASE tools & Design Studio
deanna-plant
We are in the process of upgrading to Lawson v10. We are being told we are not licensed for CASE tools and Design Studio but were told that in order to create custom Cobol programs or change Lawson programs we must have these tools. We have custom programs and have made mods to delivered Lawson programs.
Can anyone tell me how we can verify if we have both of these tools?
Thank you in advance!

[With Lawson 9, I think that it's possible that you may have a tool but not be licensed to use it.] That being said, if you are still using Lawson 9 you go into a LID session and type, "pgmdef". Then drill down to a program, you may be able to open it for edit. That's the CASE tool. Design Studio is a browser-based tool which you'll have to search for the URL. If it doesn't run you don't have it.
I can't answer for Lawson 10, but up to Lawson 9, it was possible to have the CASE tools but not Design Studio - and vice versa. CASE tools allow you to customize current programs and create new ones. Design Studio allows you to tinker with existing screens, without touching the code underneath.
If it is now absolutely necessary to have both in Lawson 10, that will be news to me.

Sorry for my bad memory. From the Install guide:
"Test the installation by typing the URL to run Lawson Design Studio:
"
WebServerName:WebServerPort/.../studio
"

Deanna, you can do almost everything 'CASE' in the core environment. There is a separate license (installation) for CASE and it installs the following files:
GENDIR/bin/delscr (delscr.exe for windows)
GENDIR/bin/rdtonrpt (rdtonrpt.exe for windows)
GENDIR/bin/rdtorpt (rdtorpt.exe for windows)
GENDIR/template/rpgdb.t
If you have these files, you have the CASE package installed. Of course, this doesn't mean that Infor shows that you are licensed for it.
Design Studio should be accessible by a similar URL as portal, except remove 'portal' and replace with 'studio'.

I suppose, that to be certain, you should review the contract documents signed by your organization and the Lawson Account Executive ( or Sales Rep ).
That would be the legal standing for whether or not you are owed a download, and is the ultimate truth teller...
It is completely possible to buy something from Infor ( or any OEM ) and not have even installed it on your system(s). By reviewing the details of your contract, you will be able to have something to compel Infor to update your download page with the appropriate downloads ( for CASE and Design Studio ). Your Infor Account Executive would be the person that you would work with to resolve the issue ( GSC provides technical assistance vs. administrative assistance ).

Thank you all for your responses! We pulled our contracts from Lawson purchase in 1998 and it does not show CASE or Design Studio specifically noted. We were wondering if it was bundled with LSF Environment back in 1998 in which case it would not be noted separately on our licensing. We have been working with our Infor project leads since June trying to figure out if we are truly licensed for these products or not. At one point during our upgrade status call, one of consultants on the Infor team had said it was required for creating/modifying 4gl programs - that is what made us question whether we were licensed for it our not. We don't think we own it but we ARE able to create & modify programs through LSF environment.

I believe that CASE is the 'tool' that you are using to create and modify programs through LSF in Lawson 9. Also I believe that it's included as part of your LSF license.
Design Studio is different. I am certain that it must be licensed separately.
At my office, I know we have CASE tools, as I've used them. I know we don't have a license for Design Studio. When I tried to access it, nothing there.
