Adding a hyperlink to PO20
Legacy Contributor
Is there a field within PO20 that will allow you to include a hyperlink? We're looking for a way to include capital documents, quotes, etc. into PO20 that will allow users to pull up the associated document. The document would be stored on a shared drive that all would have access to.

We established virtual document servers for both RQC and vendor documents. We adjusted the existing 'Attachments' code, some Lawson screens and new htmls to handle uploading / opening documents. Some applications also have new Documents buttons for easy reference.
However, we have them secured by appropriate departments and/or user groups.

A feature does exist called Attachments, but it is deceiving. You are not actually storing the document in the database; you are only documenting the location with a URL. So, if you move the target document the URL link is broken and you can’t retrieve it.
The other caveat is the URL has to be accessible to everyone you want to be able to view the document. This is a challenge for us to have a share drive that is accessible to both SC and AP for example. We only need to share a limited number of documents between us like quotes.
Another thing we found, there is no indicator on the PO20 form to know whether it contains an attachment or not. The comment system, indicates when there are comments, and the attachment feature works within that system, so it should exist, but it doesn't
I would prefer to see an attachment option that lets you embed the document in the PO data record.
You access Attachments by right clicking on the PO number field in PO20.

MKirch-So you can't actually open the document like you can for an Item Image in IC11? Basically all you are doing is referencing the location that the user would have to go to, to retrieve the document. Is that correct?

The URL is saved in a comment format with hyperlinks to Change or Delete the link. There is also a hyperlink to Open the document.
I don't like the fact that a simple change to the document name or storage path breaks the link.
The syntax for the URL is file:///S:/folder/folder/file.ext
Yes that is 3 slashes after file:
S: is a shared drive letter.

We purchased a third party app from AVAAP called "Attach It" - it puts a button on any screen that accepts url attachments - RQ10, PO20 - and takes your file and saves it to the server and then links the url to the header.
We use it for the capital and construction paperwork to attach it to the POs. Also the bill only paper work on the reqs and paperwork for facilities management repair reqs.
