MSP8

We are considering timing for applying MSP8 and I'm crowd-sourcing information on this patch. We are on environment 10.0.9.

- How many of you have applied MSP8? Reasons that you have not?

- How extensive was your testing for MSP8? This will be my first MSP application as the Lawson admin at my org and I'm curious approximately the time investment and estimated downtime for MSP application?

(I'm not familiar with the process and just followed the instructions in the pdf. )

I installed MSP8 a few months ago.

the notes said that there is a mandatory patch.

(it was a pain figuring out what CT patch to download that has that mandatory patch)

it took a lot of trial and error to figure out how to install the CT patch properly

(we backed up the entire system and had to restore a few times)

It was also a challenge to get the MSP patch installed.

(some compile issues with our custom programs. mainly me not familiar with how the system/screens/compiling works)

even though i figured everything out installing it on our dev server, some problems (that I missed) also came up during production install.

testing for our functional team was just 2 days over the weekend.

finally;

PR160 had additional parameters that our automation product was not prepared for and caused issues.

I've installed MSP8 and quite a few other MSP's.

The difficulty depends largely on how much you are customized. If you don't have any custom cobol programs, design studio mods or certain automation processes, it's relatively easy. It's not much harder than a CTP.

To install it in test, The install took an hour or 2 then the compiles took 4 -6 hours. Then we had to fix a few custom programs and do some recompiles. That took about a week.

We take approximately 2 months to test the MSP. We use our implementation test scripts and test everything. Then we have the users test using the same test scripts and anything else they want to test. Testing could be consolidated into a month with a very aggressive schedule.

If I remember correctly, for the go live it took about an hour to install the MSP and anther 3 -4 for the programs to compile. Then another hour to refit our customizations, and do some recompiles where there were conflicts.

I would consider going to MSP9 instead of 8.

Again,the length and difficulty depends on your level of customization.
