Contact Numbers in ESS

If an employee adds a contact number in ESS, does it go anywhere as far as like HR11 or does it just stay in ESS? Just trying to see what the benefit would be to allowing employees to enter that information on ESS.

It updates Additional Contact Numbers (HR20). Because it doesn't update HR11, we've stopped using the phone number fields on HR11 and use HR20 exclusively for home phone as well as work-related numbers.

We have LTM and when I update my phone number in ESS under Profile it updates it in the Contact information in LTM.
