Inventory Discrepancy - Number of S/Ns doesn't match quantity

We are in the middle of a physical inventory and are having a problem reconciling one of the serialized part numbers. Visual is saying that we have 17 instruments in stock, but when we printed out the inventory tickets for the physical inventory, it says we have 18 serial numbers in stock. Does anyone know why we might have 18 serial numbers but only a quantity of 17 in stock? Any suggestions on where to start looking at this?

Are they in an inspection where or another location? Go to material planning window and enter the part id then choose Info - Warehouse locations and see if there are multiple locations and if these locations are locked as well.

We don't use inspection warehouse and there are four others in a secondary warehouse, but those are completely offsite and accounted for. These 18 serial numbers are all in the same location.

We have determined what happened and are figuring out how it was allowed to happen. Our shipping software allowed our shipping clerk to choose a serial number that is in an unavailable warehouse location. However, it did not record it back to Visual that the S/N was taken out.
