Integration of PDFs with XML data to IDM from a network location

Hi There

We're currently in the process of integrating Ephesoft into our system with IDM (we don't have IDM capture) and Syteline, We've got our invoice data going from Ephesoft through to Syteline as XML data, however we need to get the original PDFs of the invoices going through to the IDM repository along with XML data so that we can view the PDF invoices that are related to our purchase orders.

Ephesoft is installed on a separate server, can anyone suggest a way to use the ION API to poll a folder on the Ephesoft server to retrieve the PDFs and send them to IDM? Or any other way to get the files into IDM?

Galen - You could create an ION Connection Point for a SMB File share and suck up files into an ION Document Flow. Once the PDF is retrieved, grab the XML and call an API to upload to IDM with attribute values from the XML.

The other way is to utilize the StreamServe Adapter, and put the PDF and XML directly into the upload directory.

There is also a JAR file that can be used, but this would include manual work.

Thanks for that, definitely points us in the right direction. We've currently managed to upload a single PDF using the API testing point. Although we manually specified the base64 encoded string for the corresponding PDF.

We're currently unsure of how to emulate this conversion inside ION. Is that something that you might be able to shed some light on? At the moment we're looking into Binary File Templates, but that might be barking up the wrong tree.

The way that ephesoft exports the files is /root/batch1.xml for the xml file and /root/currdate/batch1.pdf for the pdf. The XML File contains the filepath for the related PDF. We're unsure of how to juggle multiple files at once with a connection point.. Ideally in ION we'd read the PDF Location from our already captured XML and then have a sub document flow work on uploading that to IDM via that information?

I would create a File CP to monitor the /root/currdate/batch1.pdf directory and pickup any new files, while mapping the document name to a parameter; and push that into a Document Flow. Then pass that to another File CP that picks up the parameter matching name + '.xml'. You could then upload that XML to the Object Schema as a custom BOD, then map that XML to a custom BOD needed for the IDM StreamServe. Both of these documents would then be sent to an IDM StreamServe directory, for upload. You can review the StreamServe doc to get an idea of what the .xml file should look like.

Your other option is to take both documents and send to an API, while mapping the batch1.xml (custom bod) doc attributes to an API call. The flow should allow you to send mapped attributes and the PDF for attachment.

At the moment we don't have streamserve installed (And we don't particularly understand it all that well to be honest) - So We're looking at the second option.

Do you know if there's an IDM API Call that allows us to upload a file given just the filepath? We're looking at post /items API Call, but it seems to only work when we pass through a base64 string conversion of the PDF.
