FTP can be used to connect a file server where Shared Folder will allow you to simply share a local folder in your computer. FTP, sFTP, FTPS are different protocols to connect file hosting servers. If you host a server on your computer then you can connect it using one of these protocols.

When connecting to a localhost shared folder using SMB v2, do you have to specify the port number (I assume 445) and your network username and password? Also do you have to specify the full path starting from C:...... etc

Are you still experiencing issues with File Connection Point ? Yes SMB-in and SMB-out default to 445; aws windows ec2 instances default to this port. You need to create a share through Windows explorer or command line. You don't specify the root drive, just your sharename. Your hostname will be inherited from your Enterprise Location via Enterprise Connector.
