Mass User Lock Out - Form

There are times we need to keep all but a few select users out of our CSI 9.01.01 install. I created this form that requires 2 UET's to be added to SLUsernames . I figured I would share this with the Community in hopes it will help someone else. I plan to develop it more as time goes on.

Thanks, but I'm wondering: why not simply do a "Replace Value In Collection" on the User Login Status in Users form, to set them to "Disable" (either down from selected row if sorting works out for you, or manually switching back to Active those who must remain so, then saving)? This is what we do.

You absolutely could do that. I'm still new to CSi & didn't even know that option existed. I did a quick test with your solution (didn't click "Save" though, so please correct me if I'm mistaken). If this performs a flat out replacement of the status, then the original status of the user is lost. When I go to re-activate users, this would include accounts that I don't want to reactivate (replace Disabled with Active). I would either have to find some way to Filter the users to restore only those I want or set everyone to Active and then de-activate those I don't want. With the Form I created, all user states are preserved and at a quick glance I can see who can/can't get into the system.

That doesn't mean your solution is wrong by any means. There's always more than one way to solve a problem & if I'm not understanding something about how your solution works I'd like to learn it.

I also just wanted to start sharing any tools I've written that help me in my day-to-day that will help other CSI admins.

One of the things on my personal "project list" is some kind of license monitoring/tracking/etc system.

Most people will just use the Excel Export feature to dump the current settings to an Excel spreadsheet. Then do the Find and Replace to disable the users. Then when you want to set it back, you do a paste overwrite to restore the previous values from your spreadsheet. Standard and recommended way by Infor on how to do data loads and maintain copies of settings (codes, parameters, static data, etc...).

I would just query for the active users with ISD and change them to disabled, upload the list, and save the query so I have a list of the users I changed.

I would then use that saved list to change them back.

This would not impact your current disabled users.

OK I see, and thanks again for sharing your code and thoughts, always very appreciated. I'm still new to CSI too (went live last June).

In our case, we do not need to maintain Disabled Users; we just remove their Transactional licence (User Modules) so that former employees do not use a licence, but their user remains Active and it does not bother us (so far).

If you do need to keep track of Disabled users before overwriting them all, you could filter on Disabled, then add a dummy value in a useless field (such as Fax Number, Source Control, etc.) to mark which users need to be re-disabled after the procedure, still using Replace Value In Collection. Then set all users to Disabled, change yourself back to Active (and maybe a few other users), Save; and when you're finished, filter on the "useless field" where you marked users to keep Disabled, so that they're left out of the filed; and another Replace Value in Collection to set all filtered users to Active.

The option of keeping the values in an Excel export works as a backup too; however I'm not fond of Paste Rows Overwrite because this is a dangerous method that failed us often (just plain bugs, especially in the Web Client but also Smart Client).

If you overwrite "brute force" without changing columns, then you might end up with NULL values replacing zeroes, or even overwriting other people's changes made after your export.

Otherwise if you use the "cautious" method, removing all columns except the primary key and the column you want to modify, then there are sometimes other bugs because of column ordering (and you have to be careful not to save your new grid columns setting).

@Damon Swope: what does ISD mean? (sorry if this is obvious)
