Rules overview - current state vs. future solutions

We sometimes have changes in our account structure. Due to this rules have to be adjusted for all cubes these accounts are dressed in. To don't miss out a rule, you have to go through each cube. Some time ago we therefore wrote an ImportMaster script, to read out all cubes rules each night (or on demand) and write them into a relational table. We additionally made a Application Studio report, referring to this table. There we can show rules and accelerators by cube or data model and can filter by a string. This really makes it easy to see what changes are needed but also what effect a change might have.

Therefore my questions:

Do you have the same topics?
Any solutions for that?
And towards development: Is there any rule overview in v12 (planned)?

Hello Sylvana!

We continuously increase the number of rules. Therefore it is getting more and more difficult to have an overview of the rules and th cubes referred to in the rules. At the moment our solution is to manually click through all cubes in order to find that out -> many clicks necessary! If there would be a rule overview in v12 I would appreciate it.

Although I am not a lover of Master Data Management, there are times when this can be very useful. The Designer tool in V11 and backwards, which is how the Business Planning applications were created, have a rules editor which lets you import all of the rules into one editor and lets you edit the rules there as well, this gives the user the ability to filter on any work so you can select a cube or dimension or rule element. There are some significant implications of adopting this approach for existing models and I wouldn't necessarily advise this as away forward. However, in V12 it appears that Designer is replaced by Business Modelling which looks to be a far more user friendly and user-centric tool than Designer. I think it would be worth exploring this to see if can allow the same functionality to existing models that designer does to pre-built models.
