Side by side installation BI V11 / dEPM V12

Hi User Group!

In the V12 documentation I have read that it's not supported to install V11 and V12 server components on the same machine. But what about the new Excel Integration? Is it possible to run it together with a V11 client installation on the same machine? We have several Office Plus applications and it would be very helpful if we could migrate them one by one.

Hello Karsten,

it depends on the setup. If you have O+ installed on client machine and v12 Farm is running on different (server) machine then adding new Excel Integration (= inserting the addin in Excel) on client machine is fine and should work. However be aware that certain things might clash - e.g. splashing values using the 'writeback mode' did not work fluently. That is because new Microsoft Office.js API is "living" in some kind of sandbox and there is no easy communication between old and new API worlds, therefore when both Addins are handling some of the events there might be some issues. From my experience it works quite fine but I was just testing simple reports/use cases.

I think you can give it a try...

 Edit: just please if you'll try that then do that just on test data/reports or have a backup prepared so you don't lose anything.
