Access to V11 and V12 databases from within Importmaster

Hi,

Just working on a migration project from V11 to V12 for a custom application.

As the application needs data from a second OLAP-database which is not migrated yet, i.e. still in V11, I'd like to use Importmaster on the V12 server to fetch some data from the V11 database.

Although the driver for Infor BI 11.0 upwards is offered when creating a new mulidimensional database in V12 Importmaster, the connect fails with:

Is it really necessary to install old V11 components on the V12-server to access V11 databases from V12 importmaster?

Or is there another, easier way to import data from a V11 Olap database into a a V12 olap database?

I'm thinking about using asynchronous importjobs, i.e. one running on the V11 environment, exporting the data to a relational database and the other importjob running on the V12 server, importing this relational data, but actually I don't like this kind of data transfers...

As the migration project for the second database is not started yet and will need some more attention, I need a workaroud for a few months until all databases are on V12.

Any idea or experience on how to transfer data from a V11 to a V12 olap database regularly without manual intervention ?

Ralf, did I got it right that you want to connect from single ImportMaster instance to both v.11 and v.12 d/EPM? If yes, this is not supported, it should be two environments, sorry.

Why not just move only OLAP DB from 11 to 12? This should be a simple enough process

yes, you got it right, that was my intention to access both V11 and V12 olap database from one importmaster.

Too bad, this is not supported.

The migration of the second V11 application requires some more preparation and testing as it contains a big report catalog, complex import processes and a lot of users has their own Excel-files using DBGET etc. So this is not a quick shot...

But yes, I know, we have to do it some day anyway..

Hi Ralf,

Take a look at the Office plus report converter. It does a pretty good job moving Alea formulae reports to Ad-hoc formulae reports and then on to V12. I have tested the first step.

As far as the data is concerned then you should view this as an opportunity to think about how to move data to the cloud. If you have complex IM transforms then your on premise end point will need to be a relational table rather than a cube.

thanks for your feedback.

However, I don't see, how the formula converter could help for an automatic (daily) data transfer/update from a V11 to a V12 database.

Anyway, as this is only for a certain time frame considered as a workaround until all databases are migrated to V12 I've developed two transfer jobs with a relational table in between and that works fine for the above purpose.
