has someone successfully connected to a Microsoft SAL Server SSAS Cube from Application Engine? If yes what are prerequisites - e.g. in terms of authentication (is Windows authentication possible)?

With Version 12, from 2020-12 onwards in on-premise deployments Data Connections to Microsoft Analysis Service with Active Directory Federated Security is supported. So after you have the data connection, you should be just able to use Analysis Service from Application Engine. if that doesn't work for you, please register a support incident.
Thanks for the good to know info, unfortunately we are still on v11. Are there options also possible? We have a SSAS DB connected in a repository and access it from Office Plus, but I found no way to access it from AE.
