Getting Started with Mongoose Reports

We are on cloud-based Mongoose. So I only have the web designer and web client.

Is it possible to create a printable report the with Mongoose web client? I saw this line in the Help (About Report type forms).

Note: In the web client, you can view a report-template type form as a template, but you cannot use the runtime preview function or generate a report from it.

I tried using the New Form Wizard to create a report.

Wizard = Report

The wizard creates a report. But it doesn't seem to work. The "Run" button doesn't do anything. I click the Refresh button and only one row is displayed. The Export button is grayed out.

At this point, I don't know if cloud Mongoose supports reports. Or if I'm doing something wrong.

Questions:

Does Cloud Mongoose have the ability to create printable reports?
If Cloud Mongoose doesn't have the ability to create printable reports. Then what options do I have for printing Mongoose data?

1) Yes, MT Mongoose has the ability to create reports.

2) Do you have IDM? If you need to setup a local printer, you have to setup an Enterprise IDM printer, and then define Cloud Printing, in your Mongoose Report Options form. If you want to be able to print preview and print from, you need to turn on Print Preview from Report Options as well.

We have IDM.

There's a report named "User Authorization Report". This report gives me the ability to Preview or Print. Preview opens a DataView Results form. And Preview opens ReportViewer.aspx which allows me to print or download to a PDF. So I think my environment is set up for for running and printing reports.

What I don't understand is the Report Form Wizard. I thought it would generate a report that I can preview or print. But I must be misunderstanding the purpose of the Report Form Wizard. The form it generates doesn't even have the Preview and Print buttons like the "User Authorization Report" does. I'm going to try looking at the "User Authorization Report" in Design mode and see if I can understand what it is doing.

The piece that you're missing is that the form with the Preview and Print buttons is not the report form.

The User Authorization Report is not a great example, because it's backed by a data view and not a report form. Search for the word "viewer" and you'll find a lot of options and if you try to run them they'll give you a message that they cannot be called directly. These are the report forms. You create a utility form that calls these, and these are typically suffixed with "report". For example, if you had a "Do Something Report" then you'd probably have a utility form called "DoSomethingReport" and an actual report form called "DoSomethingReportViewer"

In the upcoming October/November release of Mongoose MT PaaS, we have a new Reporting Wizard that is being delivered. The Wizard will step you through selecting a data source, adding in any aggregation of information you wish and then outputting the report as well as a criteria form and background task so that you can specify criteria to call the report. This should help you to create base reports that you can then personalize further in the designer.
